I grew up in the heart of the coalfields of the East Midlands, England; began my formal education in the university of a steel town in southern Ontario, Canada, and established a career as an artist in post-industrial Manchester and the rural heartland of the Peak District.
My two degrees- Philosophy/Religious Studies; Landscape Architecture, trained me to observe and ask questions. My career as a professional gardener helped me understand that sometimes the most valuable knowledge is gained by getting your hands dirty. These combined skills made me into a self-taught artist and experimental printmaker.
I produce collograph prints not reproductions of paintings or drawings, nor editions of prints from a printing plate. I use an etching press to impress paintings/embossed paper sculptures made on printing blocks into paper. Each piece is unique not reproducible.
As an independent artist and experimental print-maker unable to find access to printmaking facilities locally I set up my own, now available for others to use.
I exhibit in Britain and Canada and my work is collected internationally.
